The release of southern dunlins

There has been a lot of preparation for this moment. It’s absolutely one of my favorite memories to this day working with photography. The day when we released the southern dunlins back into the wild still warms my memory. I hope I get the chance to experience more of that. After month of work, preparing and caring for the chicks it was amazing to see them take their first steps out in the wild, back to where they belong. They were released on a day when the wind was strong, with the sound of oceans waves in the background. When we opened the doors of the aviary for the first, and last time, some of the chick fast flew out to soar in the wind. Others took their time and walked out in the tall grass. Walking around the place they only knew of, taking their time before they disappeared back into the wild. There are not enough words to describe the feeling and every time I watch back on the photos, I will remeber it all.
